We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment that supports and fosters the development of the next generation of scientists. We believe the best science is done in an environment that values and includes people of diverse experiences, backgrounds, and opinions.

We are dedicated to the recruitment and retention of individuals from diverse backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in STEM. In order to do so, we are committed to the following actions:

  • Creating an environment that welcomes and supports the opinions and voices of all individuals

  • Ensuring that discussions and interactions of all lab members are respectful and professional

  • Providing individualized mentorship plans that align with individual needs and career goals

  • Advocating for the advancement of marginalized groups at the undergraduate, graduate, post-doc, and faculty level

  • Providing opportunities for students from underrepresented communities to gain experience in neuroscience and in academia (e.g., providing opportunities for high school students to get research experience and experience the academic environment)

  • Eliminating barriers that dissuade or prevent individuals from pursuing a career in STEM
